H.L. Chapman crew at work on final day of trench construction. The trenching began at the south end of the project 2 miles south of Tamiami Trail and ended near the Tamiami Trail right of way.

After the trench is constructed it is backfilled with the spoil material prior to placement of the slurry. The wall is constructed in daily segments. Cement-Bentonite slurry is continuously fed into the trench as the backfill material is removed by the excavator. The excavator then waits for 15 minutes and scrapes the bottom of the trench again to remove any additional material that may have settled to the bottom. This assures that a thoroughly mixed slurry profile is achieved for the full depth of the trench.
